Types of Internet Connections

When the Internet was first introduced to the world, the only connection option that was available was dial-up. This connection often required users to get another phone line installed in their home in order to not tie up the main phone line. However with new technology, there are now other Internet connection options available to consumers. Currently, three of the most popular connection options are cable, digital subscriber line (DSL), and satellite.

Cable Internet Connection

If you have cable television in your home, your local company may also offer cable Internet. The Internet is transmitted thru the cable coaxial cables and shares the same line as your cable television. However, this share line does not affect your ability to view your television programs. The speed for cable Internet is fast but it can slow down if there are many users online.  The cost of cable Internet is around $40 to $60 per month which may vary based on your cable provider.

DSL Internet Connection

Another type of Internet connection is DSL. This type of connection is normally offered thru your phone company using your phone line and a modem. Unlike dial-up, you can use the phone line and have DSL on the same line. The speed of your connection is often based on how close you are the phone provider central location. However, DSL is not available in all areas.

Satellite Internet Connection

Satellite Internet is one of the newer Internet connections available on the market today. This type of Internet is mostly available in rural or country areas that are not able to get DSL or cable Internet. However, it is more expensive than the other connection options and the equipment can be expensive as well.  The speed is faster but it can be affected by bad weather. There are also some restrictions on usage by some of the satellite providers. You can enjoy these Internet connections to browse your favorite websites, whether http://www.direct.tv, downloads or social networking sites.

When it comes to dialing numbers, no one actually knows each other’s phone numbers anymore. If you didn’t have your phone with you, you’d likely not be able to call a relative for help if you had an emergency. Luckily the chances of not having our phones is pretty remote. So it’s important that you have the numbers you need in the phone.

Search Online

The first thing you can do to be sure you have the right numbers on your smartphone is to look up numbers online. There are a lot of online directories that will provide the information that you need. Whether you have an LG Android phone or another type of smartphone, entering this information is easy. Include other information where possible, including addresses and alternate phone numbers. This is helpful in case you need to figure out how to get to their house.

Contact Relatives

If you don’t have contact information for someone, consider contacting someone else to get that info. If it is one of your relatives, you will probably have the needed contact info for someone close to that person.

Enter Info Immediately

When you meet a new acquaintance or run into an old friend, be sure to enter his or her contact information into your phone immediately, so you don’t forget.

Be sure to back up this information, whether to a cloud service online or to your computer, so in the event that your phone dies, you won’t lose your contacts.

A Look at the Firefox Plugin: Forecastbar Enhanced

There are many add-ons and plug-ins available for Firefox. Some of the best Firefox add-ons and plug-ins are no longer available to the public hears a look at one of the Internet communities favorite add-on for Firefox. This add-on is called the Forecastbar Enhanced.

The Forecastbar Enhanced is an add-on that was available for those that use Firefox. Firefox users would be able to download this add-on to the Firefox website. The features of this add-on were amazing. The small space that all web browsers have in the bottom left-hand corner with taking up by a small weather radar that allowed users to track their forecast in a number of different parts of the world. Users of this add-on would be able to know when storms were coming in, what type of weather was going on and the current temperature in their location.

This add-on was great for any weather nut who like to stay up to date on the latest weather forecast. Instead of having to go to a number of different websites or turn on the weather Channel users would just have to glance down at the bottom left-hand corner of their screen and be able to get the latest weather forecast.

Unfortunately, this Firefox add on was discontinued in 2008. Firefox users are no longer able to use this great weather forecasting tool. However, this great plug-in has not been forgotten by Firefox users and many people wish to see this plug-in added to future versions of Firefox. Many times computer users will add this plug-in as the top plug-ins in the history of the Internet.

Firefox Plugin: Update Scanner

Checking websites regularly is a must for Internet users. Many Internet users will check their websites multiple times throughout the day to see if new information has been added. What if there was a way that you could design a program to check number of websites frequently throughout the day to see if updates have been added. With the invention of the Firefox add-on known as Update Scanner you will no longer have to check multiple websites dozens of times a day.

The Update Scanner is a plug-in for Firefox that will check designated websites for updates. Internet users can specify what type of websites they want checked, how often they want them checked and what type of information they are looking for. The program will then go and scan the websites for new information that has been added and alert you of any changes that came to the website.
